Casinos And Cannabis Still Don’t Mix in Las Vegas
Cannabis may be legal for adult consumption in Las Vegas but going into a dispensary isn’t as simple as showing an ID that proves you are 21.
Eventually, cannabis will be sold for adult use in Nevada similar to alcohol. But for now, zoning regulations in Las Vegas are extremely conservative when it comes to the location of the cannabis.
“I don’t think in the foreseeable future you are going to see the retail sales of any cannabis product on the Las Vegas Strip,” Chairman Steve Sisolak of the Clark County Commission told CNN Money.
The zoning rules for Clark County don’t allow dispensaries near a casino. The Nevada Gaming Control Board also prohibits investors in the casino industry to invest in dispensaries, and vice versa.
There has also been debate over operating guidelines for existing medical marijuana dispensaries.
Las Vegas city officials are eyeing sweeping changes to medical marijuana regulations that would relax the rules and more closely align the city with Clark County, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

The potential changes come as the city awaits guidance from the state on implementing rules governing recreational marijuana, which became legal Jan. 1.
The proposal offered Monday would change the time frame when medical marijuana sales are prohibited to 3 a.m. to 6 a.m. Sales have not been allowed between midnight and 6 a.m.
Another change would remove a $75,000 annual fee for dispensaries, but leave in place a one-time $75,000 origination fee. All good news for those with hopes of opening a dispensary.
There is also a measure to deter carpetbagging, with the city’s vetting efforts including flagging out-of-state companies whose businesses had been shut down elsewhere.
